Why I use the oils I use........
The reason I began to make my own soaps is because I have sensitive skin. I found that even the "dermatologist recommended " soaps left my skin feeling tight and dried out. As I began to study about soapmaking , I got excited as I read that hand crafted soap is much kinder to the skin, as the glycerine formed in the soapmaking process remains intact. Most commercials soapmakers "harvest" the glycerine that is so soothing and moisturizing for our skin to sell for other applications. So, I began this soapmaking adventure.
Every bar of soap that I make contains the following oils:
Olive Oil: This is my first oil of choice, as olive oil is very, very gentle to the skin. It is also moisturizing. Olive oil soaps are generally safe enough for sensitive skin, as well as babies.
Palm Kernel Oil: I use this oil because olive oil alone does not form a very rich lather. Palm Kernel Oil is moisturizing when used in moderation, so I include this to help produce a harder bar that lathers well.
Grapeseed Oil: An excellent oil for mature or damaged skin. It is a gentle oil that is good for moisturizing.
Sweet Almond Oil: Sweet almond oil is used for it's moisturizing and emollient characteristics.
Shea Butter: Also known as African Karite butter, this substance is similar to cocoa butter. It is used because it moisturizes and nourishes your skin.
Cocoa Butter: Used for it's moisturizing and skin-softening qualities.
